Invest Europe represents the whole industry, including those who invest in private equity funds. Investor members are represented through our Limited Partners Platform and play an important role in shaping the industry’s response to regulation that could deter investors from putting their capital to work in European businesses.
There are currently three proposed regulations affecting investors in private equity.
Insurance companies – Solvency II
Solvency II is a review of prudential regulation for the European insurance industry. It provides a risk measurement framework for defining capital requirements for insurance companies.
Pension funds – IORP Directive
The IORP (Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision) Directive establishes an EU regulatory framework for the pension sector. It sets the rules for pension funds’ investments in risk capital markets, including in private equity. It is in the process of being reviewed.
Structural Reform of Banking
The debate over the structural reform of Europe’s banks centres on whether their retail activity should be separated from their trading activities to protect the taxpayer from having to bailout failed banks.
