Productivity, innovation and competitiveness are central to the EU’s plan for long-term economic growth. Policymakers understand that innovative new businesses, if nurtured and financed, can lead to growth, jobs and ultimately Europe’s economic recovery.

The European Commission Investment Plan has the goal to mobilise EU funding to bring additional, innovative investment in Europe. The private equity industry supports the Investment Plan’s objectives, in particular strengthening access to finance for innovative SMEs by using funds from within COSME and Horizon 2020.

Meanwhile, the industry continues to play its role to support the delivery of Europe 2020, the European Commission’s ten-year strategy to drive growth in the EU and create a more “smart, sustainable and inclusive” economy.

Invest Europe is working closely with the European Commission to encourage more venture capital investment, to channel expertise and finance into those small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), with the capacity, ambition and vision to think big. EU policymakers championed the European Venture Capital Funds Regulation, which facilitates cross-border fundraising for smaller venture capital funds which do not qualify under the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) and Invest Europe is working with them to ensure its implementation delivers real benefits to European businesses.
