Invest Europe guided the industry through the first round of pan-European regulation
European private equity became a regulated asset class in July 2013, with the implementation of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) and the European Venture Capital Funds Regulation (EuVECA), a voluntary alternative to AIFMD for smaller funds.
Thanks to Invest Europe’s strategy of positive and constructive engagement with European policymakers, the industry has a workeable AIFMD regime and one that has real potential as a mark of quality and marketing passport.
Before the European Commission’s announcement of a delay in implementing new solvency rules under the proposed revisions to the Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision (IORP) Directive, Invest Europe called for a more measured approach to workplace pensions reform.
A landmark moment for professional standards
Invest Europe has been the guardian of the private equity industry’s professional standards for 30 years. The publication of Invest Europe Handbook of Professional Standards in 2012 marked a key moment as both private equity managers and their investors (limited partners)agreed to follow a shared code of conduct. The Handbook has subsequently been updated every year to ensure its relevance.
Bringing together industry players
Private equity is at the heart of the global debate about how best to deliver long-term, sustainable investment into companies and the wider economy. Invest Europe Responsible Investment Summit in January 2014 brought together the industry and policymakers to debate how they could work together to encourage long-term investment.
Every year, our conferences and events attract hundreds of participants, reflecting our position as an industry thought leader and champion of European private equity to international investors.
The creation of a pan-European database of private equity activity came closer in June 2012 with the signing of an agreement between Invest Europe and national associations. Work on this important project continues.
