As individuals, businesses and governments address the issue of sustainability globally, the consideration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) opportunities and risks not only drives the creation of better companies, but also helps safeguard long-term performance and value for investors in those companies.
In this environment, responsible investment has become a critical issue for private equity fund managers and their investors. ESG factors play an important role in their initial investment decisions, as well as the on-going development of companies after investment.
As the pan-European association for the private equity industry, Invest Europe has done a great deal to promote and increase members’ awareness, and to facilitate the integration of responsible investment and ESG issues. Together with like-minded associations across the EU and around the world, we will continue to bolster this important cause by highlighting best practice and disseminating guidance through the publication of guides and other materials, the development of training courses and the organisation of workshops and other events.
This voluntary best practice guide aims to help private equity firms identify and address material ESG risks and opportunities, both prior to investment and during the ownership period. It also includes a comprehensive questionnaire covering a wide range of ESG issues.
The Invest Europe guidance on climate change provides practical, entry-level, support to private equity investors seeking to integrate climate change considerations in their investment processes. Offering a step-by-step approach, this starters guide includes both tools and business cases.
In recent years sustainable finance has risen to the top of EU institutions’ priority list. The EU is committed to integrating sustainability considerations into its financial policy framework in order to mobilise finance for sustainable growth.
Invest Europe is the guardian of the industry's professional standards, shaping the principles of ethical behaviour and trust that govern the relationships between private equity managers, their investors and portfolio companies.Learn more
