The report shows that listed private equity is generating meaningful uplifts over last reported asset valuations.

Part of the EIF Equity Survey series, the results of the VC Survey 2024 are based on responses received from 398 venture capital fund managers (GPs). The survey is managed by the EIF Market Assessment and Research division with the support of Invest Europe.

While InfraTech is still a relatively new asset segment, it has quickly come to occupy an important position in investment portfolios, and its share of private infrastructure deals has grown from 7% in 2018 to 17% estimated in 2023. InfraTech has the potential to enhance the climate-resilience and optimise the value of conventional infrastructure in all stages of the lifecycle. It is also changing business models for investors, as illustrated by the business case studies included in the report.

Now in its fifth year, Invest Europe’s Capital Under Management & Dry Powder report highlights not only the size and capacity of Europe’s private capital industry, but also its position in the portfolios of long-term investors.

The report examines investment in its entirety, including the use of leverage and co-investment. It highlights follow-on investments in addition to initial investments to show where capital is flowing in Europe.

The study shows private equity’s continued strong outperformance of European listed equities over the long timeframes that matter to long-term investors, including pension funds and insurers.

The report, in partnership with law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel, shows a pick-up in divestments from 2022 lows, signalling increased confidence among trade buyers in the resilience and potential of companies built by private equity and venture capital firms.

An annual survey, undertaken on behalf of Invest Europe, that collects comprehensive and robust activity data on fundraising, investment and divestment from more than 1,750 private equity and venture capital firms in Europe.
