MDT – Meet the KNXperts (Video – 2:37)

Roger Karner

CEO - MDT Technologies

MDT’s KNX products enable energy efficient building management allowing up to 50% of energy savings. With buildings being responsible for around 17% of global energy-related GHG emissions, it has been part of our mission to increase awareness of how our solutions open crucial GHG emissions reduction capabilities from buildings’ operations. Having 91% of MDT’s revenues coming from the Taxonomy-eligible economic activities that contribute to climate change mitigation, we are also pursuing an ambitious agenda to decarbonise our own operations having emissions reduction targets now verified by SBTi.

Key achievements

  • Supported by IK Partners and CO2logic, MDT assessed scope 1 & 2 emissions from its operations in 2021, and identified emissions reduction objectives and opportunities with a trajectory to align with the Paris Agreement targets;
  • In 2022, MDT set science-based targets to reduce its scope 1 & 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 from the 2021 base year that have been verified by SBTi and is committed to expanding the monitoring emissions exercise to scope 3 emissions;
  • Almost 40% reduction in emissions has already been achieved in 2022 by switching to 100% green electricity sources with more decarbonisation measures in the pipeline such as a heat pump system, on-site solar power generation, and fleet electrification;
  • MDT is in the process of documenting the EU Taxonomy alignment as a means to ensure the credibility of the contributions of its products to the green agenda. Based on the results of the eligibility check, 91% of MDT’s revenues come from KNX products that enable climate change mitigation.

Funding history

  • In March 2020, IK Partners acquired a majority stake in MDT from the Company’s founders. This investment was made from the IK VIII Fund.
