Cardior Pharmaceuticals pioneers novel RNA-based therapeutics to address the root causes of heart disease. The company is tackling the enormous unmet need of heart failure, one of the leading causes of hospitalisation and death worldwide. Unlike conventional therapies, Cardior’s therapy is designed to halt and reverse the molecular changes that cause the heart to weaken over time, offering a promise of meaningful clinical benefit and potentially a game-changer for patients and healthcare system.
The company spun out of Hannover Medical School in 2016 and raised Series A and Series B financings from leading European venture capital investors. Cardior advanced its lead RNA therapy through clinical testing with impressive speed, supported by strategic input from its investors and industry partners. This culminated in a landmark deal in 2024 when Novo Nordisk acquired Cardior for up to €1.025bn in total value, including an upfront payment plus milestone payments.
Cardior’s work exemplifies how cutting-edge biotech innovation, when supported by experienced European investors and strong translational science, can bring hope to patients facing devastating chronic diseases.

Cardior seeks to address heart failure by advancing a novel class of antisense oligonucleotides that target so-called non-coding RNAs. We aim to not just alleviate disease symptoms, but to address the root causes of heart failure and restore the normal functioning of the heart.
