PregLem was established with a focus on women’s reproductive health, including common conditions such as uterine fibroids (myoma), endometriosis and infertility.
Venture capital helped the Geneva-based start-up to hire key employees and establish licensing agreements with pharmaceutical groups Ipsen and HRA Pharma to develop and commercialise promising compounds1. PregLem was bought by Hungary’s largest drugmaker Gedeon Richter, a specialist in women’s reproductive health, in 2010 for CHF445 million, which included milestone payments of CHF295 million. Gedeon Richter pledged to invest a further CHF100 million in the company to help it develop its portfolio of drugs2.
