UniQure is a global leader in gene therapies to combat rare and inherited genetic diseases. The Amsterdam-based company’s lead product etranacogene dezaparvovec is a potential first and best-in-class treatment for haemophilia B, a life-threatening condition characterised by lack of blood clotting. The business has also developed therapies for Huntingdon’s and temporal lobe epilepsy, the most common form of focal epilepsy.

Following an initial listing in 2007, venture capital backing helped UniQure to return to private hands in 2012 to further develop its pioneering treatments. The company subsequently secured funding and a commercialisation agreement with Italian pharma group Chiesi before returning to public markets. UniQure beat price targets to raise $82 million in its Nasdaq IPO in 2014, and in September 2022 was trading at a market capitalisation in excess of $800 million.
