I think over the last three decades it's taught me that there's no such thing as business as usual, that there is no such thing as predictability, that every year brings new surprises and new lessons learned. The one consistent thing is really twofold, that private equity continues to and I believe will continue to deliver alpha returns to investors, and that curiosity is the key skill set you need in order to determine how best to make commitments and allocate your capital to private equity.

The role of the industry today is plentiful. Private Equity is a huge established revenue generating, earnings generated industry. Right now in Europe alone there are more companies in private equity hands than there are listed companies, which just goes to show the journey that private equity has been on, particularly here. Our industry is already shaping a better tomorrow and has definitely improved from some of the perceptions out there a decade and two decades ago.

I think we are good citizens. We are good holders of these investment opportunities. Whether you look at the valuation growth or the earnings growth, that all comes from a strategy of employing various different people, increasing employment, increasing governance, increasing the impact that they have at the underlying businesses on the environment. So I think overall it's headed in the right direction, but at least there's a focus and a responsibility that goes above and beyond just returns.
