We need to be a positive impact on the communities that we are active in.

My name is Richard Damming, I'm heading the European private Equity practice at Trois Capital we invest in the lower end of the market uhin private equity. In Europe uhthis means we're investing inmes there are more than 1.5 million smmes in Europe. This is a huge pool of opportunity that is out there and with the rise owner these businesses can be brought to the next level create growth add employment be a positive impact on so on society. So with the right owner these businesses can make a difference and that's why private Equity plays such an important role in the European economy.

Private Equity also plays a very important role to make businesses more sustainable. It is the perfect ownership model to implement the right measures in terms of ESG public companies you have a very disperse shareholder base. In private Equity especially on the buyout side you as owner determine basically the the the strategy of the business so you are focusing the business on certain topics that are important so you can put measures into place kpis into place and you tell a company you need to reduce your carbon emissions and we're going to do this about it we need to hire more people because we have this and this growth opportunity that we really need to focus on for example we need to take this business to the us we need to increase production and therefore we need to to hire more people and in terms of governance standards and and social impact on local communities have a role model to play we need to be a positive impact on the communities that we are active in and overall there private Equity can play a huge role it is doing so already it will be able to do more and more in the future and I think this is where the industry is going to go
